Frequently Asked Questions
HOW DID WE GET THE NAME?
The concept is that everyone, especially those involved with patient transport, while pushing a patient in a wheelchair and simultaneously holding on to an IV Pole weighed down with pumps – needs help in maneuvering a patient. Thus, everyone could use an extra hand! AxtraHand® is a play on words to remind you that we are here for you.
WHY HAS IT TAKEN SO LONG FOR SOMETHING LIKE THIS TO BE MADE?
We honestly don’t know. Co-founder, Dr. Herskovic came to us (I & G Tool Company) with the idea of creating a Clamping System to help with patient transport. Why should transport personnel have to suffer any longer? By using our Wheelchair to IV Pole Clamping System, it will help decrease injuries to all transporting personnel and then increase a cost savings for Workers’ Compensation claims – a Win/Win solution.
WHY DOES THE WHEELCHAIR TO IV POLE CLAMPING SYSTEM HAVE TO BE A PERMANENT FIXTURE ON THE WHEELCHAIR?
At first, we experimented with detachable Clamping Systems; we even had them tested at a hospital facility… but, as you may know; if it is easy to take off – it will be taken. We found that the permanently attached Clamping System is more convenient, it can also be easily moved out of the way (90 degree angle) when transporting a patient without an IV Pole. Plus, you still can fold up your transporting wheelchairs for storage (please see the pictures above). Although, we call the Clamping System a permanent fixture; if needed, you are able to remove the Clamping System with an allen wrench.
WILL THE WHEELCHAIR TO IV POLE CLAMPING SYSTEM MEET MY CURRENT NEEDS?
It most definitely will. If you are looking for a way to ease the strain on your transporting personnel’s back, neck, shoulders, arms, wrists, and hands – the Clamping System maneuvers easily and adjusts simply by pushing the red tab back and adjusting the IV Pole to your desired setting. With 240 degree range (9 lockable positions), it can be easily attached to either handlebar on your existing wheelchair. All you have to do is put your hands on the wheelchair and move the patient – the IV Pole will follow.
WHAT DOES “WAREHOUSE INVENTORY ITEM” MEAN?
We have been informed that the pricing of our Clamping System and ARB is at such a great low price that they can be considered a Warehouse Inventory Item. This way the purchase of the Clamping System does not have to take funds out of your departmental budget. After reviewing the information with your purchasing agent, ask them to see if this is a possibility.
HAVE WE LOOKED INTO A CLAMPING SYSTEM FOR OXYGEN TANK CARTS?
We definitely are now looking into this new area. This summer, we will be gathering information and reviewing our test data to see which Clamping System would work best for the majority of oxygen tank carts. If you have a particular oxygen tank cart that you would like a custom made Clamping System, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
WHAT IS THE MOST DIFFICULT CHALLENGE?
The variety of transporting devices and equipment currently being used in the medical industry is great. We are continuously researching and designing different styles of Clamping Systems to fit the vast majority of transporting equipment. If you have a certain type of bed, stretcher or a unique wheelchair that you want us to fit a custom Clamping System on to, please give us a call at 586-777-0018.
